Wrist Hinge

by David Reid
(Pawleys Island ,SC)

My left wrist has a little arthritis, and I feel better swinging the club when I let met right hand move towards my right forearm. I also have lots more power is this correct? This seems to also put less strain on my wrists.

I illustrate the right wrist hinge on the my golf backswing page.

You need to be careful when doing this. The club face needs to be opened slightly when you do this action and not stay closed into the takeaway. Both hands must act together in this action.

In other words the left hand must appear to open slightly and not face downwards. But it is fine to hinge the right wrist back on itself during the takeaway.

Blending the hinge of both hands together with the arm swing promotes a one piece move each time.

You may want to consider (if you have not already done so) getting arthritic grips fitted to your clubs. They are slightly thicker in diameter than standard grips and provide a great help and grip to golfers with arthritis.

Hope this helps!

Regards,
Louis
