Strong Left Hand Position

by Bill Freund
(Western Springs, IL)

I've had a bad grip my whole life. My miss is a vicious hook and could never get my left hand squarely on the club. As a result, my right hand does not rest on the club properly. My hands are small, so I use an interlock grip. Can you please help me?

Louis reply

Your problem could be the way you are interlocking your hands. A common fault with golfers who use this grip is interlocking the small fingers too deeply with one another and this restricts the ability of the right to be placed correctly on the grip (and it feels uncomfortable).

What you need to do is take up your grip and overlap the small fingers first. This will allow you to get the right hand in place on the grip before you cross over the fingers to interlock. Now to solve the hooking problem, weaken the right hand by allowing the palm to face your target more not the sky.

Here are two excellent articles you may want to read.
