Spine Angle at Setup
by: Anonymous

Constant spine angle may be correct for a swing where the arms and shoulders turn on different planes.

However, in a swing where the arms and shoulders swing on parallel planes, the degree of tilt would be greatest with a wedge and the least with a driver.

It seems this would be correct due to the different lie angle in a wedge vs a driver.

What do you think?

Louis Comment

Thanks for your comment! you are quite correct whether your arms swing parallel or on a different plane to the shoulders, the tilt will vary slightly.

What I should have also mentioned was that the spine needs to remain constant during the swing, but yes, the tilt will vary slightly with different clubs at address.

A good feeling to have is that of feeling tall at address no matter which length club you are using.

A lot of golfers fail to keep their postures constant while they swing, and one of the main reasons I have found is the straightening of the right knee during the back swing.

To keep the posture constant during the swing you cannot let the body lift at any stage.
