The Perfect Golf Grip solves most Swing Problems

Learning the perfect golf grip is not difficult to do, but most golfers and beginners struggle to take the same grip on every shot they play. Most of the time they are not aware of their grip changing from shot to shot.

Sam Snead once said: “if every golfer held a knife and fork the way they take their golf grip they would starve to death”

He is most certainly right, without the correct golf grip technique each time you play a shot, your swing will feel different each time leaving the body to compensate and help the action.

The most important movement of your grip is producing the correct hand and wrist action. Understand the hands generate club head speed, which translates into more distance and accuracy, they also have the greatest influence on the club face.

In fact, your hands are the club face and they control the amount of tension in your swing. The hands also create your club head path from the start of the swing.

I have proven with my students that good golf grip technique has enabled them to achieve a far more consistent golf swing in much less time.

When your hands are correctly placed on the handle the club will feel much lighter in your hand.

Here is a great way to find out!

Take you grip with the left hand only and hold the club shaft out in front of you parallel to the ground. If you struggle to hold it there you have the handle too much in the palm of your hand.

If it is correctly placed in your left hand the club feels lighter when holding it parallel to the ground.

Holding the hands correctly on the club will encourage good swing habits and I have found that formed grips do a great job in accelerating the learning process.

Here is a better training aid than a formed grip which you can use to hit shots with the hands in a perfect position every time. It slides over your golf grip and away you go!

Be prepared, because grip changes will feel uncomfortable but only till you get used to the new positions.
