Club Dilema's
by: Anonymous

The ping eye 2's are actually 25 grams heavier (zz light shafts) then the taylor made irons and I did notice(and feel) that the Pings feel lighter in the head at address.

The reason why i asked about clubs is this...I love the pings... but I hate the lofts. the burners feel much stronger in regards to the contact. I thought about buying a set of ping eye 2 "plus" about a 2 degree stonger loft...not much but a little help....your thoughts ?

Gary

Louis's answer

Shafts make a huge difference to the swing ability of golf clubs and it is obvious that you are experiencing this difference with the pings compared to the taylor made's.

The shafts are obviously lighter in the taylor made's and this is what is making the difference.

The lofts are also stronger on the taylor mades but you can also make your lofts on the pings stronger.

Bottom line is, both sets will never feel the same to you.

You can try reshafting your taylor made's with a shaft comparable to the weight of the pings. This seems to be the only answer if you want to play with the taylor made's and have the"feel" of the pings.

I had the same problem with a driver that I hit really well and the new one I was given by srixon.

I could not hit the new driver because of the exact same shaft problem you are facing. The one I liked had a heavier shaft then the new model. I eventually decided to stay with the heavier shafted driver.

I found with the lighter shaft I lost my timing and rhythm and the moment I used the heavier shafted driver the rhythm came back straight away.

Outside in the Downswing
by: gary

Thanks for the guidance on this....the strange thing is that I already have a slight draw even with this divot being outside in, and seems to defy the logical rules of swing pattern.....

So if a cut result or a slight fade is not happening, should I possibly keep doing what Im doing and forget about how my divot looks?

Answer: Yes, for the time being, but if you experience inconsistency then you will need to make some changes to the way you are currently swinging.

or..
should I try to improve the swing path and hence maybe become a bit more consistant?

Answer: Only if you feel what you are doing is not going to last or be consistent.

If I don't over swing and I use the 1/2/3 timing thing, I seem to be ok.

I'm just afraid that if this outside /in thing continues it may not work for me down the road.

I play to about a 5 handicap with my trusty eye 2's from 1984, but when I bought a new set this august(Taylormade Burners), this is when my swing went into the tank!

Answer I think the shafts are very different on these two sets of clubs. Ping made had a great shaft fitted to their Eye 2's, being a stiff light weight shaft. It is possible that if your Burner shafts are very different in feel to the old ZZlite shaft of the Ping's.

I am now back with old reliable eye 2's again and my confidence has improved, but this is when I noticed the outside to in thing.

Thanks,
Gary
