Hitting the Driver too High
by Lew Brown
What can you do to lower your ball flight on your driver? I have always hit it high even when I move the ball back and lower the tee height.
Louis ReplyThere are two possible areas to look at with this problem, namely your swing and the specs of your driver.
Firstly, teeing the ball lower will not help you hit the ball lower. The opposite is true. Teeing the ball lower will help to swing down more helping the ball into the air easier.
However teeing the ball higher encourages a more sweeping action with the club head promoting a lower or optimal ball flight.
If you have a natural tendency to hit the ball high then flattening out your swing plane will promote a lower ball flight.
If the above does not help you them you may need to look at your driver specifications. The shaft would be a start. Check what you have fitted before changing anything.
If the shaft is too light then it could help you get the ball in the air easier. A heavier shaft can help to keep the ball down producing a lower ball flight.
Shaft flex is another area to look at. Graphite shafts these days come in so many variations, its scary.
They come in various flexes not only in the shaft but also in the tip of the shaft. Perhaps you need a shaft with a stiffer tip.
It may be well worth the trip to a club fitter to find out how they can assist you.
Report back and share your findings here, I'm sure it would be most helpful for all the other readers.
