Golf Swing Tips for Any Level of Golfer

Golf swing tips can be very useful but how you interpret and apply them is what really counts. Sometimes a swing tip can really help you and other times mess with your mind!

When this happens it is usually a lack of proper understanding of the basic golf swing fundamentals or confusion about them that leads to the tips being ineffective.

If your basics are not sound then swing tips will tend to be a temporary fix for one round and forgotten the next time. Sound familiar?

I have provided some tips below that you can incorporate into your swing regardless of the level of golfer you are.

Golf swing tips- The Elbows At Address.

Many high handicappers ruin their chance of a good swing by picking the club up from the ball in the takeaway, giving themselves no chance of striking the ball with much power.

The correct feeling to employ, is to push the elbows together gently at address. This will promote a much wider takeaway and swing arc, making it impossible to pick the club up. Try it now.

Golf swing tips – Relaxed Legs

When you are all tight in the body and legs it becomes very difficult to swing properly. Golfers who are tense usually try and swing too fast and their rhythm and timing disappears.

You cannot have rhythm and timing if you are tense in your body, arms and hands and especially the legs. Keep your legs relaxed and everything will move much better.

Golf swing tips- Hitting From The Top

Hitting from the top usually causes an outside to inside swing path. Proper turning of the body will prevent this habit.

Most golfers do not have a clear picture of what they are trying to do to get into the correct position on the back swing.

Once you are in a poor position at the top of the back swing you have no feel or balance and the only thing to do is hit from the top.

The right elbow and shoulder come over the ball giving you no chance of generating power.

Developing a proper coil in the back swing with the arms, hands, and club moving together is difficult for some golfers.

A good remedy is to picture and “feel” that your heels stay in the same place from address until after the ball is struck. By doing this with enough repetition you will soon move correctly and deliver maximum club head speed to the ball.

Golf Swing Tips- Head Position And Movement

All good players have their head about 2 to 3 inches behind the ball at impact. Average golfers show two extremes, they either move the head forward or backwards on the down swing.

The root of this problem lies in the address position. If the address position is correct it will not be necessary to move the head at all during the swing motion. Your hips will be able to pivot correctly, and transfer you weight to the right instep.

Being steady over the ball your timing and rhythm will improve immediately.

Golf swing tips – How To Pivot Better

Here is a good tip if you struggle with pivoting the hips. Address the ball and once you start the back swing roll your left foot to the right without lifting the heel.

This places your left knee in the perfect position where it should be on the back swing. You also get a sensation of weight transfer. An excellent exercise.

Best Swing Advice

”You can never force a good shot nor can you force a good score! You have to let it all happen.”

Golf swing tips - Taking Aim

The club face needs to be square to your intended target when you address the ball and many golfers are not aware of where the club face is aiming when they take aim.

The main reason for this is addressing the ball with the hands behind the ball. When this happens the club face is not properly aligned to your target and will most likely return to impact in an open position.

Make sure you are aiming the lower edge of the club face (commonly called the leading edge) at your target and keep your left hand slightly ahead of the ball at address. This is a better position to start the swing from and is closer to a simulated impact position.

The club face has a greater chance of returning square at impact.and the hands will be slightly ahead of the ball at impact.

If you lie the sole of an iron correctly on the ground it will be leaning slightly to the left side, that is where it should be when you take up your address.

Golf swing tips - Not finishing Your Swing

If you struggle to swing the club down and through impact, then try pulling down with the upper part of your left arm rather than push down with the right hand.

Pulling the left arm places the right elbow in the correct hitting position. develop a feeling of the butt of the club pointing at the ball till half way into the down swing.

The right elbow will come close to your side when you do this move. Another good feeling to have here is the elbows staying underneath the hands till hip high into the downswing.

The key is to continue pulling with the left arm till the hands are opposite the left hip on the follow through. This ensures you to swing to a full finish.
