Golf Swing Release
by Frank Tamboer

Hi,
I am a 9 handicapper and about twice a year I seem to completely loose my swing. It is mainly release and only with my irons. I block my swing and balls go straight right. What kind of practice or drill is there to correct this in a simple way
Kind regards,
Frank.
Louis ReplyI have a full explanation of causes of the
push shot in my help section but I would like to add a few more comments and exercises on this subject.
You're one hundred percent correct by saying it is a release problem. The good side of this shot is that you are swinging on the correct path into impact(inside to outside, but perhaps a little too much to the outside.
Besides checking the fixes on the page above, practice swinging the club back and through with half swings (hands hip high).
Make sure when your left arm is parallel to the ground on the back swing the club is pointing up at 90 degrees to the ground and also achieve the same position when you swing half way through the shot.
Repeat a few times and feel the swishing motion of the club head while doing the swings. This gives you a great feeling of releasing the club through impact.
I would also work with your ball position. It may be too far back in your stance. move it forward and experiment till you feel where the correct position is.
Trust you have something to work with here!
