Your Posture determines your Golf Swing Plane

The golf swing plane is the path that we swing the arms and club around our bodies during a swing.

The shoulders can be used as a guide for the angle of our swing plane.

Take a look at the photo. The two lines represent the path of the arms and club in the swing plane.

My hands and arms on the downswing should stay very much in the middle of the two lines.

This is considered coming back to the ball from the inside and is initiated from the lower body moving first in the down swing.

The angle of the swing plane is determined by your height and how much you bend from the hips forward. This either makes the plane
steeper or flatter.

Posture will influence what angle your plane will take.

Once you have a good posture position you will be able to work on finding your ideal swing plane.

Tip

From the address position, swing your hands to above the right shoulder and through to above the left shoulder. This will give you a feeling of where the path of your swing plane should be.

Drill

Stand in the your address position and cock your right wrist back in the way I have explained here in takeaway.

Swing your arms slowly up to the top of your back swing, then swing them down till your hands are next to your hips.

This motion shows you two important moves, firstly you can feel the path of your swing plane going back and half way down, and secondly, you get the feel of how your down swing should feel like with no uncocking of your wrists till the hands are hip high.

Practice these moves as often as necessary and groove the feelings for your ideal golf swing plane.
