Golf Swing Improvement comes Quickly with this Drill
Shoulder Turn Feeling
If you want to experience permanent golf swing improvement then body turn drills are the answer. More on golf swing drills here As elementary as these drills may seem, they can be extremely effective in changing the way you swing forever. The sooner you realize that golf is physical and a game of “feel” the better and quicker you will improve. Here is a drill to help you get the feeling of how the shoulders turn. You will also get the feeling of what the lower body is doing. Take a long iron and place it over your back tucking it under your right upper arm. You need to then stand in the posture position.
Pull the left hand laterally to the right and voila ! That’s it.You should feel tension inside the right leg as your lower body has reacted to this pull of the left hand. Notice the left hip has not moved sideways but backwards. This allows the shoulders to turn the way they are supposed to, around the spine. A good indication if you have moved correctly is to have the left shoulder pointing to the right of the left knee. Some of you may not be able to turn very well. No problem turn as far as you can Repeat, repeat, repeat, till you build the feeling of this move.
Body Turn Feeling
This drill can also be done with the hands crossing over the chest and holding the shoulders. Taking the posture position turn the shoulders across to the right side.
The idea here is to focus on the feeling of the hip turn and weight transfer.Feel the hips pulling back to impact. The weight will be moving at the same time to the left foot. Take note that the head does not move at all on its own. This is important, you want to keep the weight centered over the feet and not give it a chance to move outside that centered feeling. Only at the end of the swing will the weight move a little outside the left foot. I encourage you to practice this drill in your own time and get it right. You will be part of the select few golfers in the world that turn their hips like Professionals do.
