Golf Swing Drills Help to Groove the Correct Feelings

The best way for you to learn or improve physical movements is through golf swing drills.

Drills, “communicate feeling” more powerfully than any explanation can, making them the best medium for learning and improving.

Simulation has always been a very powerful means of training people for the real thing.

Pilots and astronauts are good examples. They spend hours in simulators. If you repeat a feeling long enough it becomes part of you and you do it automatically.

Often when teachers, myself included, tell students to do certain things we get frustrated because the student cannot grasp the movement.

Golf swing drills come to the rescue because the student can now feel the movement in his or her own way and will repeat them once they are in their memory.

Correct movements need to be repeated till the feeling takes over from the other habit. This can take time, so be patient.

When Nick Faldo went though swing changes with David Leadbetterhe spent a year working on all the changes, first understanding them and then developing the feel.

Do the drills as often as needed, most of all understand what the drill does, then repeat as often as needed. Build those feelings and it will be worth your while.

Release the club for golf swing improvement.

Here is a great drill to release the club. Slicers should pay attention to this drill. It helps to get the feeling of the correct golf swing sequence in the downswing.

Swing the club to the top of your backswing as I have shown on the right here in picture 1.

Check to see if you have turned your left shoulder across the to the right like I have done.

Now bring the arms down at the same time that you turn and transfer your weight into the left side. Can you see and feel what happens?

Firstly, the weight shift to the left has dropped your arms and hands into a hitting position.

Now, repeat the move, swing your arms back to the top and return to the position in Picture 1.

    On the third repetition...

Swing through to a full finish like in this picture.

Do this drill as many times as you wish, it will engrain good habits of the correct swing sequence in the downswing, give you a feeling for the correct release, and give you a feel for a good finish to your the swing.

I believe this swing drill will guarantee some golf improvement.
