Golf for beginners can be very overwhelming, but to give you a breather while you are learning you will need to become familiar with
basic golf rules
and
golf course etiquette.
This will expose you to the true spirit of the game.
Being able to repeat the grip, stance, posture and balance is the best starting point of golf for beginners.
However, most of us learn to golf, myself included, from watching our hero’s on television, reading books, and watching them live at tournaments. Take a look at these excellent videos of the swing. Play them as many times as you need.
Tiger Woods
Adam Scott
We become mesmerized by the flow and beautiful rhythm of world-class players. Visualization of these swing movements becomes the blue print that our minds will always remember.
While this is a good thing and the most powerful way to learn, it is only half the picture. We don’t know how to feel the movements, and the basics of
the grip,stance,posture,and golf swing balance
are sadly overlooked.
Developing a sound grip, stance, posture and balance is the only way to build the feeling for a repeatable golf swing.
Should bad habits creep at an early stage, it will be tougher to change them later on.
Ingrain good habits from the beginning and you will have the confidence to repeat the same swing each time. The Perfect Grip training aid makes for a great start.
I would recommend a visit to a golf shop and either purchase a one club preferably a no 7 iron or a whole set, then fit the perfect grip to the 7 iron.
Starting with a good grip will give you a very good start to swing correctly from the beginning while you get familiar with the correct stance, posture, balance and alignment.
Practice them till they become second nature and pay particular attention to what the “feelings are” in these fundamentals. They will help you to recall what is correct and lay an excellent foundation for your golfing career.
In my teaching I have proven that a good understanding and execution of these basics makes the actual swing easier to perform, and progress is much quicker.
Once you are comfortable with the "basics" it is time to swing the club and here is an excellent tip from a master golfer, Ben Hogan. He jokes a little in the beginning of the video, but a great tip comes after that. Take a look, and practice doing it!It is one of the best tips for beginner golfers.
Here he is again explaining another very important move in the swing! Enjoy.
