Golf Balance is Rooted in a good Posture Position and Stance
There are three principles of golf balance, posture, width of your stance and the knee bend. Balance plays a major role in every sport and it can take time to develop. Golf is no exception. Practice and patience are the only way to achieve it. I took a while before I found good balance in my swing.
Posture
Posture helps to maximize body turn, and the weight centred over the inside of the feet gives you a solid foundation to swing from.
Check how to feel your posture here.
At address the weight is focused 50 percent over the shoelaces of each foot. The turn of the hips moves the weight to the inside of the right heel as illustrated. I have drawn the arrows in a half circular shape to give you the feel of the weight moving to the right in a rotary fashion. On the down swing I have drawn a straight line to the left heel to indicate a lateral shift first to left heel. This all happens in a matter of seconds. Width of Stance
The feet are wide enough to have a definite feeling of weight transfer without swaying back and forth. You need to find the width of your stance. Most full shots will demand a stance at least shoulder width. This is gives you a firm foundation to swing from and helps to keep the weight on the insides of the feet. Knee Bend
The bend in the knees lowers your centre of gravity giving you a spring board to turn from and a firmer foundation of balance. The feet should feel a little heavier. Your weight can then move inside the foundation and not over to the outside of it. Strong abdominal muscles help to stabilize your foundation and can hold the resistance in the back swing. One way you can gain and maintain better balance quicker is to find an tempo to swing at. Remember you should only swing at about 80 percent of what you are capable of. Swinging at your maximum will compromise your balance.
