Elbows Position

I have a question about where my elbows should point when I address my ball.
Should my left elbow be pointing at the target or left of it, and should my right elbow be close to my left elbow say 12 inches or shoulder width apart?
Louis ReplyGreat question Steve. To clarify I trust you are referring to the back of the elbows here.
The closer you keep the elbows at address the easier you will be able to achieve a one piece takeaway move with the club, hands, arms and shoulders.
The best way to achieve this simultaneous action is to turn the back of both elbows inwards facing the hips, and resting your upper arms on top of your chest.
This position gives you the best opportunity to keep the elbows together during the back swing, take a full shoulder turn, and swing the arms and club on a perfect plane into the back swing.
Shoulder width and the size of your chest determines how close the elbows will be.
Golfers with big chests and pectoral muscles should decide to either hug the sides of their chest with the upper arms, or keep the upper arms on top of the chest. Do whatever is comfortable for you without creating any tension in the shoulders and arms.
Maintaining the distance of the elbows during the swing is a vital step in generating a wide swing arc, which adds power to the shot and activates the correct swing sequence for the body movements in the swing.
