Cack Handed Grip

Hi Louis,
I've been playing for about a year now with a cack handed grip. A conventional right grip doesn't feel correct to me, but a left handed grip/swing feels better.
Should I continue being cack handed or explore playing left handed?
Thanks
Adam
Louis ReplyThanks, good question Adam.
Firstly, if the cack handed grip feels comfortable and you are satisfied with the shape of shot you are currently producing, then stay with it.
I have seen many golfers hit the ball with this grip and seem to do pretty well with it.
Your advantage of course with this grip is you cannot hit the ball left and will take the left hand side of every golf course you play, out of play. Which is a good thing!
Secondly, since you are playing for such a short time and feel more comfortable with a left handed swing, (and grip) then I would suggest you should rather consider playing left handed.
Personally, if this may help you, I am left handed but play right handed with a conventional grip. It feels comfortable to me and gripping left handed also feels comfortable to me.
I can swing pretty well left handed, but the difference I feel is, I cannot seem to generate as much hand speed with the left handed swings as what I can do with right handed swings! I feel much slower with the hands swinging left handed.
Lastly, evaluate your goals with your golf.
What level of golfer do you want to become? If you are a serious then change to left handed, otherwise if your intention is a recreational golfer then continue with your cack handed grip.
